Youth Voice Collection

The Youth Voice Collection for George Town is an annual project that endeavours to capture the concerns, ideas and hopes of local youth. Collecting the voices of George Town youth helps inform future thinking, actions and strategies developed by George Town Council, Future Impact Group and the wider community. The aim is to collect at least 250 online surveys each year, along with creative methods of consultation and discussion.

Online Youth Survey

308 people submitted an online survey with the majority participating in school consultation sessions. Questions were designed by youth along with project evaluators, Jeder Institute to be a mix of qualitative and quantitative measures. The survey results have had further collation with the George Town Youth Impact Council members and will contribute significantly to Council’s Community strategy.

Ideas Boards

‘Ideas Boards’ are an effective way of gathering the thoughts of young people on priorities quickly.
They have provided many great conversation starters and also an understanding of what young people see as worth putting their energy into for the future.

Sharing the results

The team showcased their findings along with an annual report, and further opportunity for the community to contribute towards a better future. Overall, youth in George Town prioritise safety, fun, inclusivity,
opportunities, and community engagement as essential to their well-being and development. They value safe spaces, mental health support, art, and recreational activities, including improved sports facilities. Inclusivity, social support, and a sense of belonging were identified as key, alongside
opportunities for education, employment, and skill-building. Additionally, they seek a voice in shaping their community and contributing to its growth through meaningful engagement.
